This Standard covers the quantitative determination of the particle size distribution in a soil down to the 75 mm sieve, in which the material washed out during the fine sieving analysis is kept as the sample for the sedimentation analysis in AS 1289.3.6.3 (see Note 1). The continuation of the analysis by hydrometer, as described in AS 1289.3.6.3, is not applicable if less than 10 percent of the material passes the 75 mm sieve.
