Specifies requirements for the disposal systems for effluent from domestic premises comprising not more than five bedrooms, i.e. 10 persons.

This Standard sets out the requirements for the disposal systems for effluent from domestic premises comprising not more than five bedrooms, i.e. 10 persons. The following disposal systems are covered in this Standard:(a) Sub-surface systems Sub-surface systems may include -(i) an absorption trench or area;(ii) an evapotranspiration area or trench;(iii) a combined evapotranspiration-absorption area or trench; or(iv) an absorption well.(b) Surface irrigation Effluent may be disposed of by surface irrigation provided it is of a satisfactory quality (see Clause 2.6.2) and the authorization of the relevant regulatory authority is first obtained.(c) Collection well Effluent may be discharged into a watertight collection well for subsequent removal from the site, with the authorization of the relevant regulatory authority.
