Abstract - (Show below) - (Hide below)

Amalgamates AS 2704-1984 and AS 2705-1984 providing safe procedures for the filling of SCUBA and SCBA portable cylinders. The Standard also defines the pressure limitations on the valves used on these cylinders, together with details of the minimum information to be marked permanently on the valves.

Scope - (Show below) - (Hide below)

This Standard specifies procedures on safe practices for filling gas cylinders for self-contained underwater breathing apparatus (SCUBA) and non-underwater self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) where the breathing gas is compressed atmospheric air. Filling methods recommended are compressing of atmospheric air and decant filling of compressed atmospheric air. There are extremely high risks involved in the compressing or decanting of breathing gases and gas mixtures with more than 22% oxygen and these procedures are outside the scope of this Standard.WARNING: SEVERE COMPATIBILITY PROBLEMS WILL OCCUR IF OXYGEN-ENRICHED MIXTURES ARE INTRODUCED INTO EQUIPMENT PREVIOUSLY USED FOR BREATHING AIR. THESE MAY RESULT IN THE INSTANTANEOUS RELEASE OF EXTREMELY LARGE AMOUNTS OF ENERGY.
