Specifies the uniform minimum requirements for manufacturers, designers, regulatory authorities, testing laboratories and similar organizations for the safety, performance and use of leakage detection systems. These leakage detection systems are intended for use with natural gas, town gas, tempered liquefied petroleum gas and liquefied petroleum gas.

These requirements apply to leakage detection systems intended to be used as part of a safety shut off system (see AS 3814).Compliance with these requirements does not imply that it is acceptable for use without supplemental tests in its intended application.Leakage detection systems shall comply with the requirements of the appropriate electrical authority.These requirements apply to commercially available packaged leakage detection systems that include pressure switches, timers, pumps, etc., and those leakage detection systems that are built up from standard components intended for the same purpose.These requirements do not apply to devices intended to detect external leakage from gas pipes.
