Specifies requirements for carbon steel electrodes and low or intermediate alloy ferritic steel electrodes for gas metal arc welding. It defines a classification and designation system for the electrodes, and includes a method for the easy selection of the weld metal based on its mechanical properties.

This Standard specifies requirements for the following solid electrodes for gas metal arc welding:(a) Carbon steel electrodes.(b) Low or intermediate alloy ferritic steel electrodes.NOTE: Additional information concerning electrodes is given in Appendix A.
