Specifies particular safety requirements for approval and test purposes. It is to be read in conjunction with AS/NZS 3350.1:1994. This Standard is technically equivalent to and has been reproduced from IEC 60335-2-44:1997.

This clause of part 1 is replaced by:This standard deals with the safety of electric ironers for household and similar purposes, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single-phase appliances and 480 V for other appliances.Appliances not intended for normal household use but which nevertheless may be a source of danger to the public, such as appliances intended to be used by laymen in shops, in light industry and on farms, are within the scope of this standard.NOTE 1 û Examples of appliances within the scope of this standard areû rotary ironers for one-person operation;û ironing presses for one-person operation;û trouser presses;û mangles.Ironing presses may have means to generate steam or to spray water.So far as is practicable, this standard deals with the common hazards presented by appliances which are encountered by all persons in and around the home.This standard does not in general take into accountû the use of appliances by young children or infirm persons without supervision;û playing with the appliance by young children.NOTE 2 û Attention is drawn to the fact thatû for appliances intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft, additional requirements may be necessary;û for appliances intended to be used in tropical countries special requirements may be necessary;û for the purpose of this Standard, Australia and New Zealand are not considered to be tropical;û in many countries additional requirements are specified by the national health authorities, the national authorities responsible for the protection of labour and similar authorities.NOTE 3 û This standard does not apply toû rotary ironers for operation by more than one person. The roller length of such appliances normally exceeds 1,6 m in length;û appliances intended exclusively for industrial purposes;û appliances intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapour or gas);û electric irons (IEC 60335-2-3).û electric irons (AS/NZS 3350.2.3).
