Abstract - (Show below) - (Hide below)

This Standard sets out a method for estimating the number of colony-forming units (CFUs) in water using a pour plate technique and R2A Agar. For waters which may contain growth-inhibiting additives which have not been neutralized, plate counts starting with the 1:100 dilution are recommended in order to eliminate interference with counts. This increases the lower detection limit of the method to 100 cfu/mL. This limit is generally adequate for applications such as the monitoring of cooling tower water.
