Recommendations for the design, installation and maintenance of vertically glazed glass and plastics glazing sheet materials for buildings. Does not apply to patent glazing, furniture and fittings, barriers and balustrades, greenhouses, bent, profiled and corrugated glass, glass blocks and lens lights, glass and plastics bullions and thermoformed and corrugated plastics sheeting.

This code of practice gives recommendations for the design, installation and maintenance of vertically glazed (see 3.40) glass and plastics glazing sheet materials for the external walls and interiors of buildings. The recommendations in this code do not apply to: patent glazing (see BS5516); glazing of furniture and fittings; glazing of barriers and balustrades (see BS6180); glazing of commercial greenhouses (see BS5502); glazing of domestic greenhouses; bent, profiled and corrugated glass; glass blocks; glass lens lights (precast and cast in situ); glass and plastics bullions; thermoformed plastics panels; corrugated plastics sheeting (reinforced and unreinforced). NOTE1 All dimensions given in this code for thickness are nominal. Tolerances on glass thicknesses should be in accordance with BS952‑1. NOTE2 It is not possible to state individual tolerances on all the installation dimensions contained in this code. These dimensions, which are based on considered good practice in the glazing industry and assume skilled workmanship, should be reasonably applied.
