Rotary tooth form cutters and other chainwheel generating tools (hobs, rack cutters and pinion type cutters) used for the manufacture of transmission roller chainwheels complying with BS 228.

This British Standard specifies dimensions for rotary tooth form cutters and chainwheel generating tools (hobs, rack cutters and pinion type cutters) used for the manufacture of transmission roller chainwheels complying with BS 228. The profiles are given for the rotary tooth form cutter in the roller diameter range 5 mm to 95.25 mm, and for other chainwheel generating tools the rack form is given in the pitch range 8 mm to 152.4 mm.

NOTE 1 The title of the publication referred to in this standard is listed on the inside back cover.

NOTE 2 For the purpose of this standard the details of the chainwheels are as given in BS 228.

NOTE 3 Table 3 and Table 4, given in Appendix A, are the inch equivalents of Table 1 and Table 2 respectively. Both the inch equivalents and the metric dimensions will provide tooth gap forms within the limits specified in BS 228.
