Gives a titrimetric method for determining free hydroxyl groups on paint media. Hydroxyl groups may be present as polyhydric alcohols, partial esters, polyester end groups or hydroxylated fatty acids. Not applicable to resins containing both hydroxyl groups and epoxide groups, because the latter will also be attacked and included in the result. Not applicable to cellulose nitrate or phenolic resins. Covers references, definition, principle, reagents, apparatus, sampling, procedure, notes on procedure, expression of results and test report.
