This British Standard specifies the chemical composition, mechanical properties and inspection and test requirements for an 18 % nickel-cobalt-molybdenum maraging steel (iron base, Ni 18, Co 7.75, Mo 4.9) supplied in the following forms and as parts for general aerospace use:

  1. forging stock, designation S 162A, columns 2 and 3 of Table 1;
  2. forgings, designation S 162C, columns 4, 5 and 6 of Table 1;
  3. black bars for machining, designation S 162B, columns 7, 8 and 9 of Table 1;
  4. bright bars for machining, designation S 162D, columns 10, 11 and 12 of Table 1.
