Specifies general requirements with regards to performance and construction of class A binnacles, magnetic compasses and azimuth reading devices. Two types of binnacle are given, according to the ship's design. Covers liquid-filled magnetic compasses for sea navigation in accordance with regulations in force; which may be reflecting, transmitting or projecting types; and those which have a direct reading system. Does not cover compass types designed on principles different to those stated, or not in compliance with the description given, or to dry card compasses.
