GENERIC REQUIREMENTS FOR SURGE PROTECTORS ON COAXIAL LINES AT CUSTOMER'S PREMISES
Published date

12-01-2013

Provides view of generic requirements for surge protectors on coaxial drop cable service customer premises. Generic requirements are intended to promote reliable and safe performance of surge protectors at the customer's termination of coaxial lines in a Local Exchange Carrier (LEC) network environment. Surge protectors, installed in a Network Interface Device (NID) or similar closure help limit the magnitude of unwanted surge voltages on the outside plant that may reach terminal equipment. Unwanted surge voltages may arise eg from the effects of lightning or powerline faults. This document details generic requirements that a coaxial surge protector shall have to avoid interference with the operation of telecommunication networks and to provide voltage limiting that is compatible with telecom network.
