This Japanese Industrial Standard applies to any electronic equipment for control, regulation, protection, supply, etc. installed on rail vehicles and associated with: a) either the accumulator battery of the vehicle; b) or a low-voltage power supply source with or without a direct connection to the contact system (transformer, potentiometer device, auxiliary supply), with the exception of electronic equipment, which conform to IEC 61287-1 or to the category of power electronics equipment. The line of demarcation between power electronics and control electronics is determined by the component (e.g. instrument transformer, pulse transformer, etc.) which ensures electrical isolation between the two parts. This isolating component, which is generally located either close to or inside the power electronics equipment, is considered as belonging to the latter. In cases where there is no electrical isolation, the line of demarcation may be defined in a similar manner. The electronic equipment which is the subject of this Standard can be used to equip traction vehicles belonging to the following categories: a) vehicles supplied with direct current at what is called ghigh voltageh ? That is, with the nominal voltage between 600 V and 300 V; b) vehicles supplied with alternating current at a high voltage at power frequency or at a special frequency; c) multiple current vehicles which can be powered by several current systems as listed above; d) independent vehicles (vehicle with batteries, an internal combustion engine, electrical transmission or other system). This Standard also applies to electronic equipment installed on driving cars or distributed in the wagons and coaches. This Standard or any parts hereof is applicable to electronic equipment mounted on other vehicles such as d.c. electric vehicles, mining locomotives and trolley cars (trolley bus, etc.) of external power supply with a supply voltage not exceeding 600 V according to agreement between the user and the
