Dieser Teil der IEC 61204 beschreibt die Anforderungen an die elektromagnetische Verträglichkeit (EMV) von Stromversorgungseinheiten (power supply units, PSUs) mit Ausgangsgleichspannung bis 200 V, bis zu einer Ausgangsleistung von 30 kW und zum Anschluss an bis 600 V Gleich- oder Wechselspannung. Die Geräte sind für selbständigen Betrieb oder zum Einsatz in Geräten mit entsprechendem elektrischem und mechanischem Schutz vorgesehen. Für spezielle industrielle PSUs, z. B. in der chemischen und metallurgischen Industrie, können andere EMV-Produktnormen existieren. In diesem Fall können diese Normen als eine Alternative angewendet werden. Da viele PSUs als Bestandteil grösserer Einheiten verwendet werden, für die andere EMV-Normen gelten, wird anschliessend in den Abschnitten a) und b) eine Einteilung der Stromversorgungen vorgenommen und die anzuwendenden EMV-Normen werden angegeben. In Anhang A werden weitere Richtlinien für die Einteilung angegeben. a) Stromversorgungen für selbständigen Betrieb (einzelne Geräte) Dieser Teil der IEC 61204 gilt für PSUs, die als Einheit mit selbständiger Funktion entwickelt und als eigenständige Einheit auf den Markt gebracht werden. b) Stromversorgungskomponenten.
