Special requirements, additional to those in AS 1418.1, for special purpose appliances including platform hoists, tip truck hoisting systems, earth-moving equipment used as a crane, and side-boom pipelayers. Application, design, controls, performance, components, testing, marking, operation and maintenance are covered. Appendices provide guidance on information to be supplied with enquiry, order, tender or request for hire, statutory approval, commissioning, inspecting and operation, and use of platform hoists.

This Standard specifies requirements for special purpose applicances used for the hoisting of loads and personnel, as defined in AS 2549, but does not apply to builders hoists (see AS 1418.7), guided storing and retrieving appliances (see AS 1418.6), and vehicle hoists (see AS 1418.9). It is complementary to AS 1418.1 but requirements given herein take precedence over corresponding requirements in AS 1418.1.NOTE: Guidance on information to be supplied with enquiries, order, tender or request for hire is given in Appendix A.
