Covers test methods for the following parameters for the quality of the image: axial resolution, lateral resolution, dead zone distance, slice thickness, depth of penetration, displayed dynamic range, magnification errors, registration error and accuracy of the caliper.

This Section of BS5724 describes the performance parameters to be stated in documents accompanying an ultrasonic medical diagnostic equipment as defined in 2.31, together with methods for evaluating its performance using specified test-objects. This Section of BS5724 does not cover Doppler effect facilities of ultrasonic medical diagnostic equipment.
