    Specifies requirements for modems and associated call setup equipment for connection at a NTP or through a NTP port to speechband private circuits or to a public switched telephone network. Applies to self contained modems and to integral modems (modems incorporated within terminal equipment) including the use of single or double dial up operation. Applies to apparatus meant for direct connection to a public telephone network. Does not apply to software or external apparatus that is necessary to produce conditions appropriate to any parameter of the modem under test.
