Pertains with the safety of electric drives for horizontally and vertically moving gates, doors, garage doors and windows for household and similar purposes, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single-phase drives and 480 V for other drives.

This clause of Part1 is replaced by the following. This European Standard deals with the safety of electric drives for horizontally and vertically moving gates, doors, garage doors and windows for household and similar purposes, their rated voltage being not more than 250V for single-phase drives and 480V for other drives. It also covers the hazards associated with the movement of the gates, doors, garage doors and windows. NOTEZ101 Battery-operated appliances and other d.c. supplied appliances are within the scope of this standard. NOTEZ102 Examples of places where gates, doors, garage doors and windows for household environment may also be used by non-expert users: shops, offices and other working environments farm houses; hotels, motels and other residential type environments where they are used by clients; bed and breakfast type environments. NOTEZ103 Household environment includes the dwelling and its associated buildings, the garden, etc. Drives being part of power operated doors, gates, windows and garage doors which are intended to be used by trained users in shops, in light industry and on farms, are also within the scope of this standard. NOTEZ104 Examples of drives within the scope of this standard are drives for folding doors; revolving doors; rolling doors; roof windows; sectional overhead doors; swinging and sliding gates or doors. Examples are shown in Figure101. NOTEZ105 Drives may be supplied with a driven part. NOTEZ106 Within the standard the terms drive and appliance are interchangeable. This standard deals with the reasonably foreseeable hazards presented by drives that are encountered by all persons in and around the installation place. However, in general, it does not take into account children playing with the appliance; the use of the appliance by very young children; the use of the appliance by young children without supervision. It is recognized that very vulnerable people may have needs beyond the level addressed in this standard. NOTEZ107 Attention is drawn to the fact that in many countries additional requirements are specified by the national authorities responsible for the protection of labour and similar authorities. NOTEZ108 Attention is drawn to the fact that for drives for powered pedestrians doors used in emergency routes and exits additional requirements as given in EN16005 are applicable. NOTEZ109 This standard does not apply to drives for vertically moving garage doors for residential use ( EN60335‑2‑95 ); for rolling shutters, awnings, blinds and similar equipment ( EN60335‑2‑97 ); for specific purposes, such as fire barrier doors; for doors on vehicles; for doors on lifts; for natural smoke exhaust ventilator not used as windows ( EN12101‑2 ) NOTEZ110 This standard does not apply to movement of a pedestrian door where such movement is based solely on stored mechanical energy. This European Standard does not deal with any specific requirements on noise emitted from these drives as the generated noise is not considered to be a relevant hazard. Thus the emission sound pressure level L pA is considered to be L pA≤70dB(A).
