Diese Norm gilt für Stellteile, durch die Arbeits- oder Verstellbewegungen von Maschinenteilen in jeweils zwei entgegengesetzte Richtungen bewirkt werden. Sie gilt sinngemäss sowohl für hundbetätigte Steuerungsvorgänge als auch für das Ingangsetzen von selbsttätigen Bewegungsabläufen. Durch die sinnfällige Zuordnung der Bewegungsrichtung der Stellteile zu der Richtung der zu erzeugenden Arbeits- oder Verstellbewegung werden Bedienfehler weitgehend vermieden. Diese Norm gilt nicht für solche Stellteile für Maschinenteile, die während des üblichen Betriebes der Maschine ständig in gleicher Richtung umlaufen, z. B. Schalter für elektrische Motoren.
