Diese Internationale Norm beschreibt ein Verfahren zur Bewertung von Mineralölen und anderen Flüssigkeiten, die anzeigt, wie wirksam diese das Rosten von Teilen aus Eisen verhindern, wenn das Öl oder die Flüssigkeit mit Wasser vermischt wird. Das Verfahren findet Anwendung bei inhibierten Mineralölen einschliesslich Dampfturbinenölen, Umlaufölen, Hydraulikölen sowie nicht aus Kohlenwasserstoffen bestehenden Flüssigkeiten einschliesslich solcher mit einer höheren Dichte als Wasser. In vielen Fällen, z. B. in den Getrieben von Dampfturbinen, kann das Schmieröl mit Wasser vermischt werden, wobei möglicherweise Teile aus Eisen verrosten. Dieses Prüfverfahren ermittelt die Wirksamkeit, mit der inhibierte Mineralöle helfen, diese Art des Rostens zu verhindern.
