The objectives of these Guidelines are to provide guidance to emergency service personnelon the electrical hazards that may be encountered during emergency situations.These Guidelines are intended to:(a) protect the safety of emergency services workers and the general public;(b) specify minimum control measures for the protection of emergency services workersand the general public where electrical hazards are present; and(c) assist Emergency Services Organisations to develop work procedures and relatedtraining and awareness programs.

These Guidelines do not constitute a training manual for response in emergency situations in which electrical hazards are present, nor do they set down procedures for emergency response in such situations. Such procedures should be developed by the Emergency Services Organisations in accordance with the principles contained in these Guidelines.These Guidelines apply to the electrical hazards associated with electrical apparatus provided for the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity.These Guidelines do not supersede the requirements of any Act, Regulation, Code or Standard applicable within any State, Territory or Federal jurisdiction.
