Diese Europäische Norm gilt für die Auswahl von Schrauben und Muttern zur Anwendung im Gültigkeitsbereich der Druckgeräterichtlinie 97/23/EG. Sie legt Normen und zusätzliche Anforderungen an Masse, Werkstoffe und technische Lieferbedingungen für Schrauben und Muttern fest. Schrauben und Muttern nach dieser Europäischen Norm, sind für die zur Verwendung zusammen mit Flanschen nach der Normenreihe EN 1092 (nach PN bezeichnete Flansche) sowie der Normenreihe EN 1759 (nach Class bezeichnete Flansche) vorgesehen. Die Auswahl beruht auf allgemein gebräuchlichen Werkstoffen, Schrauben und Muttern. Sie umfasst Temperaturbereiche für den allgemeinen Betrieb von Normflanschen (auf der Grundlage von PN und Class).
