Dieser Teil von ISO 17226 legt ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung von freiem und freigesetztem Formaldehyd in Leder fest. Dieses Verfahren beruht auf kolorimetrischer Analyse. Formaldehydgehalt ist die Menge an freiem Formaldehyd und durch Hydrolyse freigesetztem Formaldehyd, der in einem wässrigen Extrakt, der unter standardisierten Bedingungen erhalten wurde, enthalten ist. Dieses Verfahren ist nicht vollständig selektiv für Formaldehyd. Andere Bestandteile wie extrahierte Farbstoffe können bei 412 nm ebenfalls interferieren.
