Specifies the method for determining absorption, swell and capillary rise by determining the moisture content, trimming and weighing a sample compacted to a standard compactive effort or to a density ratio, curing, oven drying, and weighing and measuring before and after soaking.

This Standard sets out the method for determining the water absorption, swell and capillary rise of water in compacted specimens of unbound, bound and self-cementing materials. Specimens tested using this Standard are not used for determining the unconfined compressive strength of the material.
