Specifies requirements for horizontal downward displacement steam sterilizers (including jacketed types and non-jacketed types) that are intended for use in hospitals and other non-industrial applications. Guidance on information that should be supplied with enquiries and orders is given in an appendix.

This Standard specifies requirements for horizontal downward displacement steam sterilizers (including jacketed types and non-jacketed types) that are intended for use in hospitals and other non-industrial applications.NOTES:1 Steam sterilizers require an independently generated saturated steam supply that has a dryness fraction of not less than 0.97.2 Steam sterilizers should not be installed in any location where flammable anaesthetics or volatile liquids may be used, unless the location and the sterilizer comply with the relevant requirements of AS 1169, AS 2380.7, and AS 2480.3 Guidance on information that should be supplied with enquiries and orders is given in Appendix A.4 Standards for equipment in hospitals that washes, sterilizes, or dries medical equipment are listed in Appendix B.
