Applies to the installation of electrical equipment in tents for lighting and domestic purposes and to the connection of such equipment by means of a flexible cord and outlet box to the electrical installations in caravan parks and camping areas to ensure safety from electric shock and fire. Also applies to the installation of electrical equipment in temporary sheds without fixed flooring which are intended to be relocated.

This standard sets out requirements for the installation of electrical equipment in tents (and annexes attached to caravans) for domestic purposes and the connection of such equipment, by means of flexible cords, to the low voltage electrical installations (normally exceeding 32 V a.c. but not exceeding 250 V a.c.) in caravan parks and camping areas providing facilities for such connections. This standard does not apply to electrical installations in-(a) booths, tents, living quarters and other temporary structures and areas used for or associated with entertainment or display which are subject to the requirements of AS 3002; (b) caravans and caravan trailers which are subject to the requirements of AS 3001; or (c) transportable sheds and like temporary premises or structures not intended to be relocated, e.g. old tramcars, buses or caravans rendered immobile by the removal of wheels, which are subject to the requirements of AS 3000.NOTE: This standard does not call for specific instruction notices to be provided either in a tent or in the camping area. However, it is recommended that the operator of the camping area provide each camper intending to connect his tent installation to the mains supply with a copy of an instruction notice containing at least the information set out in Appendix A.
