Specifies essential requirements for the installation of secondary batteries in buildings, structures and premises, and addresses itself to safety from fire and electric shock. It applies to secondary batteries with a nominal voltage exceeding 24 V and a capacity exceeding 10 A.h at the one-hour rate. Provision is made for battery room layout, a limit of 120 V on the battery section voltage and incorporation of insulating barriers. Emphasis is placed on making the battery room a dedicated installation by excluding d.c. distribution boards.
