Specifies requirements for shackles and chains used in the suspension of vertical mine shaft conveyances. Design, materials, manufacture, marking and testing are specified. Appendices provide guidelines on permissible imperfections for magnetic particle inspection, and design guidelines for shackles and chain links.

This Standard specifies requirements for the design, manufacture and testing of shackles and chains for use in the suspension of conveyances in underground vertical mine shafts.General requirements are specified in AS3637.1.Guidelines for the design of shackles are given in AppendixA.Guidelines for the design of chain links are given in AppendixB.Permissible imperfections in components are given in AppendixC.
