Specifies design, construction and performance requirements for thermostatically controlled direct-acting room heaters of the forced draught and natural convection type, also hybrid forced draught radiant heaters and hybrid natural convection radiant heaters. Point-of-sale information includes the maximum sound power level, and energy control grade.

This Standard specifies performance requirements for direct-acting electric room heaters, as defined in Clause 1.3.2, which are designed for thermostatically controlled operation at low or medium voltage. It also applies to hybrid forced draught radiant heaters and hybrid convection radiant heaters (see Clauses 1.3.6 and 1.3.7). The determination of energy control factors and grades is applicable only to the thermostatically controlled part of these heaters, however, determination of the effectiveness of the radiant component is under consideration.The Standard does not apply to the following:(a) Thermal storage electric room heaters within the scope of AS 1206. (b) Air-conditioning appliances within the scope of AS 1861.(c) Electrical heating systems which are designed to heat a room primarily by raising the temperature of a floor, wall or ceiling surface.(d) Electrically operated infrared and ultraviolet heating devices which are designed for therapeutic or industrial purposes.
