This Standard specifies requirements for occupational protective footwear fitted with toecaps for the protection of the wearer. It applies to four types, heavy, medium and light duty protective footwear, constructed with uppers and soles of leather or equivalent synthetic material, and to waterproof protective footwear constructed of rubber or other polymeric materials. This Standard specifies requirements for midsoles (for resistance to penetration of objects piercing the sole), conductive soles, and specific levels of resistance to fuel, oil and other chemicals, for applications where such properties are claimed by the manufacturer. This Standard does not specify requirements for anti-slip characteristics.Other types of footwear which do not meet the requirements of this Standard are also available. These other types which offer alternative levels of protection (e.g. those which do not incorporate toe protection) may be suitable for certain workplace applications.NOTE: Guidelines for the proper selection, care and use of occupational protective footwear appear in AS/NZS 2210.1. It is strongly recommended that AS/NZS 2210.1 be consulted when these issues are considered.
