Specifies requirements for waterborne primers and paints intended to be used on primed or unprimed galvanized steel, zinc/aluminium alloy-coated steel and on zinc-primed steel in exterior industrial or marine applications when applied by brush, roller or spraying.

This Standard specifies requirements for waterborne primers and paints, intended to be used on primed or unprimed galvanized steel, on zinc/aluminium alloy-coated steel and on zinc-primed steel in exterior, industrial or marine applications when applied by brush, roller or spraying.Type 11 and Type 21 paints, as described in AS/NZS 2312, comply with the requirements of this Standard. Type 21 paint may be produced in a range of colours and may be pigmented with micaceous iron oxide (MIO).NOTES:1 When used with the appropriate primer, paint classed as Type 21 will comply with the requirements for paint systems LP4 - A, MP2 - A, MP2 - B, MP2 - C, MP2 - D, MSALP - B, MSZLP - B, GZLP - A and GZLP - B described in AS/NZS 2312.2 Some Type 21 paints may also be used as a primer for system GZLP - A while Type 11 paint may be used as a primer for system GZLP - B of AS/NZS 2312.3 Type 21 paint may be supplied in any of the following gloss levels as defined in AS/NZS 2310 - gloss, semi-gloss, low gloss or flat.4 Appendix A provides recommendations on information which should be provided by the purchaser at the time of enquiry or order.5 Additional information on the use and application of waterborne paints is contained in Appendix B.6 Alternative means for demonstrating of compliance with this Standard are given in Appendix C.
