Provides a guide to the features and typical characteristics of long-life, high-build, low profile latex type finish protective coatings that are intended for exterior or interior use on concrete and masonry, when applied by airless spray or roller in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

This Standard provides a guide to the features and typical characteristics of long-life, high-build, low profile latex type finish protective coatings intended for exterior or interior use on concrete and masonry, when applied by airless spray or roller in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.Paints covered by this Standard are classified as paint Type 38 of AS 2311 and correspond generally to the Australian Paint Approval Scheme specification Type 3 of GPC-C-117.High-build, low profile latex finish coatings are water-based coatings that are designed to be used over texture coatings to elevate the exposure performance of the paint system. These coatings provide a non-aggregate, water-resistant finish which has suitable rheological properties to produce an even film coverage over an irregular surface profile provided by the underlying texture coating. They are used to elevate the performance of the underlying coating and they also provide dirt-shedding and anti-carbonation properties. These coatings are not intended for use on horizontal surfaces where water ponding is possible. They are normally specified in systems that may have a sealer and multiple coats. These finish coatings are generally applied by 'nap roller', but can be airless spray applied, to typically achieve a spreading rate of 1.5-6.5 m2/L (0.67-0.15 L/m2). They can be used with a specified primer as 'stand-alone' coatings to provide a low relief texture, such as a 'stipple' finish produced with a nap roller.NOTES:1 AS/NZS 4548.5 provides a test which may be used to check the cure of concrete and masonry surfaces before applying the sealer.2 Appendix A provides guidance on the use of long-life coatings for cement and masonry.
