Laboratory method whereby aggregated calcium caseinate micelles and cellular debris are successively dissolved and discarded followed by determination of the amount of insoluble matter remaining. An Appendix gives information on interpretation of results.

This Part of BS 4938 describes a reference method for the determination of the dirt content of milk.

The method is primarily intended for application to raw herd milk and raw bulk milk but it can be applied to any milk (whole, partly skimmed or skimmed), raw or heat treated.

Information on the interpretation of results is given in Appendix A.

A bibliography is given in Appendix B.
