The method is suitable for the determination of the organic halogen compounds (AOX), adsorbable on activated charcoal, in waters which contain more than 10 mug/l of organically bonded halogens Cl, Br, I (determined as chloride) and in which the dissolved organic carbon (DOC) content is below 10 mg/l. Waters having higher DOC values need to be diluted or subject to multi-stage absorption (see sub-clause 8.2). If the content of organically bonded halogens in the sample is below 10 mug/l and the DOC value is correspondingly low, a larger sample volume than that given in instructions may be selected. In the case of samples which contain solids, the halogen compounds present in the latter are also covered by the determination [1].
