Contains generic requirements for transmitting asynchronous voiceband data to Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) from the CPE's serving Stored Program Control Switching System (SPCS). It provides requirements for data transmission in both the off-hook and on-hook states. Data transmission interface applies to a variety of services, such as CLASS calling information delivery features. It introduces new requirements addressing the needs of On-hook Data Transmission without Power Ringing, requirements specific to Integrated Digital Loop Carrier (IDLC) systems that use dynamic timeslot assignment or semi-permanent connections. Also introduced is the new Generic Data Message Format (GDMF). Existing requirements are clarified and expanded.
