This guide is intended to help individuals and organizations to understand environmental risk management, and to implement environmental risk management programs based on the generic process set out in the Joint Australian/New Zealand Standard, AS/NZS 4360:2004, Risk management. Section 1 introduces fundamental concepts and principles of environmental risk management, and outlines the environmental issues and criteria that need to be considered during decision making and in developing an environmental risk management strategy. Section 2 is based on the steps described in AS/NZS 4360:2004, and elaborates on issues noted in Section 1 by detailing how the principles and process can be applied in implementing environmental risk management. Section 3 comprises an illustrative case study.
