Specifies background and guidance information on the intent of the safety standards (MIL-STD-1316 and MIL-STD-1911) that are applied to munition initiation systems. It is intended for use by both government and contractor personnel.

This handbook contains background and guidance information on the intent of the safety standards (MIL-STD-1316 and MIL-STD-1911) that are applied to munition initiation systems. It is intended for use by both government and contractor personnel. This handbook will document historical rationale for a number of requirements, in order to preserve them for future reference. This will allow proper judgement in those cases where technology changes may require tailoring of requirements. This handbook is also intended to provide information for developers to avoid known or common mistakes in the design of initiation systems. This handbook is for guidance only. This handbook cannot be cited as a requirement. If it is, the contractor does not have to comply.
