Specifies a method of assessing the corrosion resistance of metals by an alternate immersion test in salt solution, with or without applied stress. Suitable for quality control during manufacture of metals, which include aluminium alloys and ferrous materials. According to the chemical composition of the test solution, the test can be used to simulate corrosive effects of marine splash zones, acid salt environments and de-icing fluids. The test applies to:- metals and their alloys, certain conversion and anodic oxide coatings, organic coatings on metals and certain metallic coatings.
