Provides generic criteria on the DS1 Automatic Facility Protection Switching (AFPS) feature for Digital Terminal Systems (DTS). Incorporation of the DS1 AFPS feature into Digital Terminal Systems with DS1 terminations will provide the DS1 terminations with protection switching and facility restoration capability. Examples of Digital Terminal Systems are digital cross-connect systems (DCS) and automated digital terminal systems (ADTS). The AFPS feature is also applicable to electronic digital signal cross-connects (EDSX), which may act as a DTS in certain applications.
