Describes Bellcore's view of the overall system functions & performance levels required when a Digital Loop Carrier System (DLC) is integrated into a Local Digital Switch (LDS) at the DSI transmission rate. The distinguishing characteristic of an IDLC system is the absence of analog to digital conversion at the interface to the LDS. To fulfill a BOC's need to be able to select Remote Digital Terminals (RDT) to serve particular customer applications independent of the LDS deployed in the area, a generic interface between an LDS and RDT is also described.
