Prescrive i criteri di buona tecnica da seguire per la conduzione e la manutenzione degli impianti di ricezione e prima riduzione del gas naturale, onde assicurarne il corretto e continuo funzionamento. Sono peraltro esclusi apparati e sezioni d'impianto per i quali esiste oppure è prevista una norma specifica (come per esempio l'impianto di odorizzazione). Si applica sia agli impianti costruiti secondo la UNI 9167 che agli impianti costruiti antecedentemente, procedendo per analogia.
