La norma specifica le prescrizioni generali per i criteri costruttivi, le prove e le prestazioni degli apparecchi per la rivelazione di gas combustibili, progettati per il funzionamento continuo in un'installazione fissa in ambienti domestici. Rispetto alla norma europea è stata aggiunta, in appendice C (deviazione di tipo A, autorizzata), la verifica dell'affidabilità. Gli apparecchi di rivelazione in questione sono ritenuti dei mezzi ausiliari per la sicurezza degli ambienti domestici, pur riconoscendo che essi non sono sostitutivi di nessuna parte dell'impianto a gas né di requisiti di sicurezza ad esso relativi.
