Le domaine d'application est celui des amendements organiques. Ce protocole permet d'évaluer en conditions de laboratoire l'éventuelle phytotoxicité de ces produits par la mesure de leurs effets sur l'émergence et la croissance de végétaux supérieurs à partir des conditions d'emploi préconisées au champ. Il s'inspire de la norme ISO 11269-2, mais présente diverses adaptations liés aux spécificités des produits étudiés. Cet essai ne permet pas de déceler la présence d'une substance dont la phytotoxicité ne s'exprimerait pas dans les conditions de l'essai, notamment si celle-ci est masquée par la valeur fertilisante du produit étudié.
