Specifies a multiple outlet wired distribution system for the distribution of HF, VHF television signals or VHF FM-radio signals. The system described is a common antenna system for obtaining broadcast signals but the system is capable of distributing radio or video signals from any source over a network of cables, or a suitable alternative, subject to certain performance requirements. Performance is measured in terms of the electrical parameters at the system outlets. The requirements are technically identical with those of IEC 728.

This standard sets out the fundamental requirements for a multiple outlet distribution system for sound and television signals by wire, cable or other transmission line, for the purpose of achieving an adequate signal at each outlet.NOTE: The standard lays down the technical requirements for master antenna television (MATV) systems but its provisions may also be applicable in general to installations forming portion of a community antenna television (CATV) system.
