This Standard specifies the requirements for mobile cranes and vehicle-loading cranes as defined in AS 2549 and includes the tests necessary to verify the quality of design and the structural integrity of the cranes. It also specifies the requirements for utilizing earth-moving equipment as mobile cranes. It is intended for use with AS 2550.5, which specifies the requirements for the safe use of these cranes, and AS 1418.1.

This Standard specifies requirements for mobile cranes, and vehicle-loading cranes, as defined in AS 2549.It is complementary to AS 1418.1, but the requirements given herein shall take precedence over the corresponding requirements in AS 1418.1.NOTES:1 Guidance on information to be supplied with enquiry, order and tender is given in Appendix A.2 Guidance on the safe use of mobile cranes is given in AS 2550.5.3 Guidance on the requirements for regulatory approval is given in Appendix B.4 Guidance on documentary information to accompany calculations derived from computer programs is given in Appendix C.5 Throughout this Standard the word 'crane' implies any of the types of cranes covered by this Standard, except where a type is specifically excluded.
