Specifies requirements for flake graphite grey iron castings produced in sand or ceramic moulds, supplied to tensile strength requirements when intended for general engineering purposes and for applications where hardness, microstructure and machinability are the prime requirements.

This standard specifies requirements for flake graphite grey iron castings, produced in sand or ceramic moulds, as follows:T-series-seven grades of castings for general engineering, primarily to tensile strength requirements (see Section 2).H-series-four grades of castings for applications where hardness, microstructure and machinability are the prime requirements, e.g. the automotive and appliance industries (see Section 3).NOTES:1. Typical properties of flake graphite grey cast iron are given in Appendix C.2. Guidelines to purchasers on requirements that must be specified by the purchaser and those that must be agreed at the time of enquiry and/or order are given in Appendix A.
