Sets out the general principles of safe operation of mechanical equipment and tools in laboratories. Particular attention is given to safe management of gas cylinders, harmful substances and hazardous operations. Additionally, guidelines for the safeguarding of machinery are included.

This Standard sets out general principles and requirements of safe working practice relevant to mechanical operations performed in laboratories and describes the nature of the potential mechanical hazards. This Standard also covers safe working practices relevant to the use of compressed gas cylinders and cryogenic substances.
