Applies to the provision of sufficient electrical services to a house or home unit at the time of construction to satisfy not only immediate usage but also foreseeable future requirements as the demand for additional appliances increases. Stipulates minimum requirements for the number and distribution of lighting and power points, based on the room size and the nature of occupancy and also provides guides on the planning and selection of lighting and electrical equipment.

This standard sets out requirements for electrical installation in domestic dwellings to facilitate the satisfactory performance of household electrical appliances. The minimum requirements necessary to ensure safety from fire and electric shock are contained in AS 3000, and are not dealt with in this standard.
