Specifies requirements for identification cards used in financial transactions. It contains requirements for physical characteristics, dimensions, layout of information, and format for encoding Tracks 1 and 2. An annex recommends the inclusion of a character on the magnetic stripe to interface with a particular key management system, if appropriate. Identical with ISO 7813 except for the annex.

This International Standard specifies directly or by reference the requirements for cards used in financial transactions. It takes into consideration both human and machine aspects and states minimum requirements for conformity. It contains physical characteristics, layout, recording techniques, numbering system, registration procedures, but not security requirements.
